Groundwork and Swiss Water Launch the First Regenerative Organic Certified Decaf

Groundwork Coffee, a Los Angeles roaster, and Canadian decaffeination company Swiss Water have launched ROC Decaf Peru, a coffee from Finca Churupampa in Peru’s Chirinos area. The two firms present it as the first commercially available Swiss Water Process decaf to carry Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC) status.

ROC certification goes beyond the classic organic standard, covering soil health, animal welfare and fair conditions for workers. The Swiss Water Process removes caffeine using water, without chemical solvents, which makes it compatible with organic coffee requirements.

In 2022, Groundwork was among the first roasters to bring ROC-certified coffees to the US market. The launch comes shortly after other European players also began adopting the certification, a sign that regenerative agriculture is gaining ground in the coffee industry.
