UCC Launches a Regenerative Coffee Pilot in Vietnam

Japanese coffee company UCC has launched a regenerative agriculture pilot program in Vietnam, in partnership with Atlantic Commodities Vietnam (Acom), a subsidiary of green coffee trader Ecom. The program is testing practices such as shade-tree planting, cover cropping and biochar-based compost, aiming to boost coffee tree growth and yields while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. So far, 1,757 shade-tree seedlings have been distributed to 38 farmers. Vietnam, the world’s largest robusta producer, is one of UCC’s four priority origins alongside Brazil, Tanzania and Uganda, as part of the company’s goal of 100% sustainable sourcing for its brands by 2030.
