GlenAllachie Releases Batch 7 of Its 21-Year-Old Cask Strength Single Malt

Speyside distillery GlenAllachie, led by master distiller Billy Walker, has released the seventh batch in its 21-year-old cask strength single malt series. Bottled at 51.9% ABV, non-chill filtered and free of added coloring, the whisky was matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and oloroso sherry casks. The flavor profile combines espresso, dark chocolate, forest fruits and spiced plums, with baked ginger, mocha, honeycomb and spiced orange on the nose. The recommended price is around $400 for a 700ml bottle. The Cask Strength series is considered one of the distillery’s most celebrated releases, reflecting Walker’s approach to cask selection and blending.

The Campbeltown Malts Festival Edition 2026 was named Taste Master, the competition’s top honor, while Glen Scotia Harbour picked up a Master award for a profile judges described as “rich and complex, oily texture with well-integrated smoke and sweetness.”

The panel of industry professionals awarded a total of 726 medals to whiskies entered in the competition, split across six categories: American, Canadian, Irish, Japanese, Scotch and “worldwide” for whiskies produced elsewhere. The high number of awards reflects both the growing diversity of whisky producers globally and the fierce competition between established houses and newer entrants. Unlike consumer-driven competitions such as the SIP Awards, the ISC bases its verdicts exclusively on blind tastings conducted by industry professionals, which gives it particular standing among distillers and collectors. 726 Medals Awarded at the International Spirits Challenge 2026

The 2026 edition of the International Spirits Challenge (ISC), now in its 31st year, handed out 726 medals in the whisky category alone, spread across six sections: American, Canadian, Irish, Japanese, Scotch and Worldwide. The judging panel — made up of distillers, blenders and industry buyers — tastes every entry completely blind, without knowing the brand, precisely so the liquid is judged ahead of the label’s reputation.

The competition’s top honor, Double Gold, went to eleven whiskies, including three Japanese expressions from Suntory (Yamazaki 25 Year Old, Hakushu Peated 18 Year Old and Hakushu 25 Year Old), Scotch whiskies such as Scapa 10 Year Old and Rosebank Remarkable Cask Release One, and Irish whiskeys Redbreast 27 Year Old and Jameson 18 Year Old.
