Utah’s High West Distillery has released Act 14 of A Midwinter Night’s Dram, its seasonal winter whiskey, in an edition that also marks the company’s 20th anniversary.
The base remains Rendezvous Rye, a blend of straight rye whiskeys aged 4 to 10 years from three producers: MGP, High West’s own distillery and Bardstown Bourbon Company, each with a different grain recipe. This year’s novelty is the finish: alongside the Ruby and Tawny port casks used in previous editions, Act 14 also goes through Amontillado, Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks for the first time.
The whiskey is bottled at 49.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added flavouring. The official tasting notes mention berries, fig, blood orange and chai spice. The suggested retail price is $124.99, and the edition is available in limited quantities across the US, including through High West’s stores and website.
