Jack Daniel’s has released Single Barrel Special Release Coy Hill Rye, the first rye whiskey from the Coy Hill barrelhouses bottled as a single-barrel edition. Coy Hill is the highest point on the distillery’s property in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is home to Barrelhouses 1-13, where the barrels face wide temperature swings.
The whiskey has a mash bill of 70% rye, 18% corn and 12% malted barley, went through the charcoal mellowing typical of Tennessee whiskey and was filled in 2016 into new charred American oak barrels. After 10 years of maturation, it is bottled at barrel proof, between 128.7 and 148.5 proof (about 64-74% ABV), depending on the barrel.
The distillery describes notes of orchard fruit, honey and toasted oak, followed by citrus, light molasses and black tea. The 700 ml bottle costs $89.99 in the US. Master distiller Chris Fletcher said the team was “thrilled to return to Coy Hill”.
The Coy Hill Rye is not in our store, but you can try Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, available at Mister Tabaco.
