Wingsure, a US agricultural technology company spun off from the SRI International research institute, has launched Wingsure Coffea, a platform that builds a digital profile of each individual coffee farm.
Data is collected in the field by smartphone: farmers are guided through augmented-reality prompts and multilingual voice tools, and the information is then combined with satellite imagery and geospatial data. The resulting record can be shared with buyers, certifiers, lenders or insurers, so that producers no longer have to fill in the same forms several times.
The backdrop is the growing demand for traceability, especially because of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Colombia’s National Federation of Coffee Growers (FNC) is exploring integrating the technology with its own SICA system, which holds data on roughly 1.8 million coffee plots. Wingsure says its agricultural programmes have already reached more than 500,000 farmers.
