US Premium Cigar Imports Edge Up in 2026; Honduras Climbs More Than 11%

The US premium cigar market, the largest in the world, recorded slight growth in the first part of the year. According to data analysed by Cigar Aficionado, in the first seven months of 2026 the United States imported 242.8 million handmade cigars, 0.5% more than in the same period of 2025.

Nicaragua remains by far the main supplier, with 148.3 million cigars – 61% of the total – virtually unchanged from last year. In second place is the Dominican Republic, with 46.9 million cigars, but down 6.9%. The best performance came from Honduras: 44.9 million cigars and growth of more than 11%, bringing the country very close to the Dominican Republic.

Together, the three countries account for 98.7% of US premium cigar imports, with other producers holding a negligible share. The figures confirm Central America’s status as the world’s main hub for non-Cuban cigars.
