The Macallan Carta Nautica: a 38-year-old 1987 vintage and a reverse-matured 20-year-old

The Macallan has unveiled the Carta Nautica collection, whose name means “nautical chart” in Spanish. Its theme is the journey of oak from the forests of North America to Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, and then to the distillery’s estate by the River Spey.

The collection consists of two whiskies made using so-called reverse maturation: the spirit first rests in sherry-seasoned casks from Jerez and is then moved into North American ex-bourbon casks. The first expression is a 38-year-old 1987 vintage bottled at 45.2%, available from 28 September at The Macallan Estate boutique and a few brand boutiques worldwide. The second is a 20-year-old at 42%, launched first at Lotte Duty Free at Singapore’s Changi Airport and due in other airport boutiques from 19 October, priced at around €678.

The packaging features water-inspired artwork by American artist Amy Genser. The Macallan is not currently in the Mister Tabaco catalogue; discover the whisky and spirits selection in our shop.
