Scottish distillery The Glenlivet is expanding its Beyond Speyside series with 12 Year Old Provence Edition, a single malt inspired by the South of France. It is the first time the brand has used French white wine casks in one of its expressions.
The whisky is finished in three cask types: white wine casks from Château Sainte Marguerite, bringing citrus and floral notes, Rivesaltes casks, adding nuttiness and spice, and Sauternes casks, responsible for marmalade and crème brûlée accents. The flavour profile announced by the producer includes white peach, nectarine, pear, citrus and floral notes.
Cask master Kevin Balmforth attributes the result to close monitoring of the finishing process and careful balancing of the three influences, while the marketing team describes the edition as a whisky with Scottish roots and a Provençal spirit. The expression has already earned a gold medal at the 2026 Scotch Whisky Masters and is available in select markets at around $55 or £40.
