Paulig to spin coffee into a standalone business area from 2027

Finnish group Paulig, one of Europe’s longest-established coffee players, has announced its biggest reorganisation in years: from 1 January 2027 the company will move from two business areas to three — Branded Foods, Customer Brands and a unit dedicated exclusively to coffee.

Management’s reasoning is that the coffee market runs on its own dynamics, distinct from the rest of the food portfolio, and warrants a separate structure. Chief executive Rolf Ladau said the changes are meant to sharpen focus on the core businesses and position the group better for growth. The coffee unit will be led by Mariell Toiger, currently the group’s chief marketing officer, while Lenita Ingelin takes over Branded Foods.

The restructure carries a human cost: up to 110 office and managerial positions fall within the consultation, with a maximum of 55 roles potentially cut globally. The backdrop is nonetheless one of growth — Paulig, which marks 150 years in business in 2026, reported record 2025 revenue of EUR 1.4bn, up 16% year on year.
