Outset Coffee, a San Francisco specialty coffee company known for its Asian-inspired drinks, has closed both of its cafés following disputes with its landlords, Daily Coffee News reports. Its parent company, Fuji Inc., is headed by Weiyao (Toby) Sun, one of the co-founders of Lime.
The first café, opened in summer 2023 on Valencia Street in the Mission District, lost its lease in April 2025 after the landlord alleged roughly $101,000 in unpaid rent. On October 7, 2026, a San Francisco court entered a default judgment of $200,196, covering damages, interest, attorney fees and court costs.
The second location, opened in January 2024 on New Montgomery Street in the Financial District, was sued in October 2025 over $121,775 in arrears, and the space was returned to the landlord on July 29, 2026. The publication has asked Outset’s ownership for comment.
