Scottish distillery Loch Lomond has added a 31-year-old expression to its Waypoint series — the oldest peated whisky it has ever bottled. The release became available from 1 September through specialist retailers worldwide, in 2,600 bottles at a recommended price of GBP 750.
Maturation ran across three types of ex-bourbon American oak casks, followed by a 12-month finish in Tawny Port pipes — a combination meant to balance peat smoke against dried fruit and oxidative sweetness.
The series name refers to the trail between Inversnaid and Inverarnan on the north-eastern shore of Loch Lomond, one of the toughest stretches of the West Highland Way. The 31-year-old is the third expression in the series, following the 16 and 17 year olds.
