Heytea Opens Its First US Gelato Lab+ in New York, Featuring Tea-Based Ice Cream

Heytea, the Chinese chain founded in 2012 in Jiangmen and known as the inventor of “cheese tea”, opened its first US Gelato Lab+ on Broadway, in New York’s Union Square area, on October 16. It is the brand’s most elaborate format and the fourth “lab” store outside China, after Times Square, Toronto and Bangkok.

Alongside its classic tea drinks, the menu includes eight gelato and sorbet flavours made in store daily. Tea features directly in the recipes: a mango and jasmine tea gelato served with a coconut sticky rice gelato, or a dairy-free sorbet with green jasmine tea, yuzu, apple and lime.

Heytea reports more than 3,500 stores in over 330 cities and more than 45 locations in the US. The gelato concept first appeared in 2019, in Shenzhen.
