American distillery Heaven Hill has announced the 20th edition of the Parker’s Heritage Collection, one of the most closely watched limited series in bourbon. The new release is a 14-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon drawn from only 100 barrels.
The whiskey uses the distillery’s traditional recipe — 78% corn, 10% rye and 12% malted barley — and was distilled between October 2011 and January 2012, then matured across four different rickhouses on different floors, a practice meant to add complexity to the final marriage. It is bottled at barrel proof, 59% ABV, and left non-chill filtered.
The technical feature highlighted here is the use of rye backset, a portion of the liquid left after distillation that is reintroduced into the next fermentation for consistency and added spice — a method championed throughout his career by master distiller Parker Beam. The suggested retail price is 199.99 dollars for a 750 ml bottle, and part of the proceeds goes to the American ALS Association in Parker Beam’s memory.
