British tea chain Bird & Blend Tea Co. has launched a limited-edition drink called Iced Pickle Matcha across all 31 of its UK stores, available from August 1 to 13. The drink combines the brand’s signature Lemon Matcha with tonic water and a dash of pickle brine, finished with crunchy pickle slices and fresh lemon.
Priced at £5.25, the drink leans into two rapidly growing consumer trends: pickle flavor, popularized by a viral 2023 TikTok trend that pushed brands like Heinz and Nespresso to launch their own pickle-inflected products, and matcha, now ubiquitous on menus at major chains from KFC to Greggs. The launch illustrates the tea industry’s appetite for unconventional combinations designed to grab attention on social media.
