The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS), known for its single cask bottlings, has launched the first blended Scotch in its history: Heresy Batch 44 “The Blender’s Notebook”, an 18-year-old whisky.
The blend contains about 70% malt whisky, with sherry casks predominating. Its components include the base of a long-discontinued blend, kept for about 20 years in a sherry butt, a 27-year-old grain whisky and malts of about 18 years matured in bourbon, Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso casks. The label imitates vintage blended Scotch labels.
The edition numbers 1,092 bottles at £80 and is sold on the Society’s website to SMWS members, which anyone can join. The idea came from outgoing whisky director Kai Ivalo, who wanted a high-malt blend with old-school character.
The product is not in our catalog, but you can discover the whisky selection at Mister Tabaco.
