Purebread Plans to Take Over Vancouver’s Caffè Artigiano Café Chain

Purebread Brands, a Canadian bakery and café company, has signed a letter of intent to acquire the café business of Caffè Artigiano, one of the best-known names on Vancouver’s coffee scene. The deal would be done in shares, at a value of about C$7.7 million (around US$5.4 million), which would make Artigiano’s owners 49% shareholders in Purebread.

Caffè Artigiano started in 1999 with a café on Hornby Street and is known for its espresso-based drinks. The company roasts its coffee at its own facility in Burnaby and expanded its packaged and wholesale coffee business in 2025 by acquiring Salt Spring Coffee. Purebread, born at a farmers’ market in Whistler, currently has seven locations; together, the network would reach 27 bakeries and cafés, including franchised units.

The agreement is preliminary: no definitive documents have been signed, and completion depends on regulatory and shareholder approvals.
