Description
The Zippo wick is the part of the lighter that is soaked in fuel and lit to create a flame when the lighter is used. It is the main element that burns and sustains the flame in the lighter. The wick is usually made of a special material that can effectively sustain the flame and provide a long burn time. If necessary, the wick can also be replaced to keep the lighter functional.
How to replace the wick on a Zippo lighter:
– remove the insert (the lighter mechanism) from the case
– turn the insert over
– the screw head will be visible on the bottom
– carefully unscrew the screw
– remove the felt pad
– remove the cotton packing (use tweezers to remove all the cotton from the lighter’s body)
– make sure no pieces of the old wick remain in the channel
– insert a new wick
– pull it through the flame hole from below using tweezers
– put the cotton back in small portions, laying the wick in waves between the layers
– put the felt pad back in
– insert a new flint (if needed)
– tighten the spring screw until it stops
– check that the lighter opens easily
