Old Forester Launches the Tribute Series, a New Annual Bourbon Release, With a 115-Proof 12-Year-Old

Old Forester, the bourbon brand founded in Louisville in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, launched the Tribute Series on 15 October, a new annual ultra-premium release. Each edition will be a batch of the distillery’s oldest age-stated stocks rather than a single-barrel selection, with the proof ranging between 110 and 125.

The first edition is a 12-year-old bourbon bottled at 115 proof (57.5% ABV). The official tasting notes mention warm caramel, sweet leather, golden raisins and dark cherries on the nose, cherry and candied walnuts followed by cinnamon and cardamom on the palate, and a long finish of toasted oak, pepper and black tea. Like all of the brand’s whiskeys, it was matured in heat-cycled warehouses.

The bottle, with vertical facets and an engraved metal stopper, pays tribute to the mid-century decanters: Old Forester began its decanter series in 1950 and released annual holiday decanters between 1954 and 1969. The suggested price is $299.99, in limited quantities at select US retailers.
