In September, at the Royal Lochnagar distillery near Balmoral Castle, Diageo presented the 2026 edition of The Twelve Casks – a selection of whole casks of rare single malt offered to private collectors. The casks were chosen from more than 10 million maturing across Scotland.
The centrepiece is Lagavulin 1991, cask no. 1069: a 35-year-old whisky distilled in late 1991 and moved in 2007 into an American oak cask seasoned with Pedro Ximénez sherry, where it matured for almost two decades. It is the oldest Lagavulin ever offered through the programme, and the buyer may leave it to mature for five more years to create a 40-year-old whisky.
The collection also includes a 1978 Talisker, matured for about 50 years, a 1984 Caol Ila and casks from Blair Athol, Clynelish, Cragganmore, Glen Ord and Linkwood. Sales are handled by Justerini & Brooks, Diageo’s private client division; prices have not been disclosed.
