Diageo has added two Scotch whiskies to its Rare Series, launched in April 2026. The first is Convalmore 1984, aged 41 years, from the Dufftown distillery in Speyside that closed in 1985. It matured in a single American oak cask filled shortly before the closure. According to the company, the distillery’s whisky was bottled by its original producer only five times, with most of its output going into blends.
The second is Dalwhinnie 1989, aged 36 years, from one of Scotland’s highest and coldest distilleries. It spent time in American oak hogsheads seasoned with Amoroso sherry and had an unusually long finish of more than four years.
The series’ first chapter included Blair Athol, Clynelish, Caol Ila, Talisker and Glenury Royal, the last of which, at 55 years old, is the oldest single malt the company has released. The announcement does not give prices or bottle counts.
