Deanston Distillery Turns 60 and Celebrates With a Week of Events

Scottish distillery Deanston, on the banks of the River Teith near Doune, is turning 60. The building operated for around 180 years as a cotton mill designed by Sir Richard Arkwright and was converted into a distillery in 1966, largely thanks to the river’s pure water.

Deanston is the only distillery in Scotland that is self-sufficient in electricity, using its own on-site hydro plant. The former weaving shed has housed maturing whisky casks since 1966. The distillery belongs to CVH Spirits and produces a Highland single malt with a honeyed, slightly waxy character.

The anniversary is marked from 11 to 17 October with tours, tastings and live music, along with limited editions dedicated to the 60 years. The programme includes a tasting covering four eras of the distillery and a community day on 14 October. The week closes with an open day on 17 October.
