Bowmore Named World’s Best Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards 2026

At the 2026 edition of the World Whiskies Awards, one of the most respected international whisky competitions, the editors of Whisky Magazine named Bowmore 21 Year Old Sherry Oak Cask the “World’s Best Single Malt.” The honor confirms the standing of the Scottish distillery, one of the oldest on Islay, among the benchmarks of the super-premium category.

Alongside Bowmore, the Ballantine’s brand also picked up a “World’s Best” title in the blended segment, reinforcing the reputation of the established Scotch houses. This year’s edition brought some surprises too: younger distilleries from whisky’s “new frontiers” — Australia, Belgium and China — climbed onto the podium next to traditional names, a sign that the global map of quality whisky is expanding fast.

The judging panel also handed out honorary titles: critic Serge Valentin (Whisky Fun) and former Nikka master blender Tadashi Sakuma were inducted into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame.
