Rafael González Perlas is a Cuban cigar in the Perlas format. It’s one of the more recent additions to the Rafael González range (launched in 2011), fairly small and perfect for morning smoking. It burns fairly slowly, with a pleasant creamy taste alongside bold woody aromas. After lighting, the first aromas are black coffee, dark chocolate and toasted tobacco. First third: mainly woody, oaky, with hints of coffee, and it produces plenty of smoke. Second third: wood and black coffee remain dominant. The toasted-tobacco and white-pepper notes from the first third are still present, alongside fruity hints that gradually fade, replaced by vanilla and sweet-milk aromas. Final third: the flavour profile doesn’t change much from the previous third, with plenty of wood and coffee still present. Towards the end, intense smoky aromas emerge — roasted coffee, smoked wood, resin and earthy hints. Simply put, a delicious combination and balance of aromas.
