Hooten Young, a veteran-owned American cigar and whiskey company, has started shipping a culebra called Gothic Serpent to retailers. The name refers to the 1993 operation in Mogadishu, Somalia, in which co-founder Norm Hooten, a former Delta Force operator, took part.
A culebra consists of three thin cigars braided together, which are separated and smoked individually. Each measures 6 5/8 inches by 38 ring gauge, with a Nicaraguan binder and filler but different wrappers: an Ecuadorian Connecticut shade with a “snake head” of Mexican San Andrés leaf, followed by two barber-pole versions pairing San Andrés with green candela and with Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed leaf respectively. The profile is described as medium to full.
The cigars are rolled at the Cordoba & Morales factory in Nicaragua. Production is limited to 1,000 culebras, sold in white triangular boxes of three at a suggested price of $25 each.
Gothic Serpent is not in our catalog, but you can explore the cigar selection available at Mister Tabaco.
