Cuba, like Cohiba, is a name dating back to the Taino Indians, the native inhabitants of the island of Cuba in the time of Christopher Columbus. The word was used to describe a fast-burning bush that the natives used to light their “cohibas.” Each Cuaba cigar is rolled in a distinctive shape, namely doble figurado, a vitola that at the end of the 19th century was the most sought-after cigar from Habanos. Over time, the popularity of this type declined, but in 1996, the tradition of making a doble figurado was revived at the Romeo y Julieta factory.
